Good to hear that at least Maverick does not suffer from this problem (though I have n't tested that myself and can't confirm).
Given that Lucid (10.04) was an LTS release (3 years of support!), it is very very important to get this fixed. Many i845 folks are awaiting for this bug to get fixed, before jumping onto Lucid.
