I tried to do the check. Unfortunately my GSM card is not recognised in
Ubuntu 10.10. Most likely this is due to the bug 625110 which is
mentioned also in the list of "known issues" for the beta release. They
suggest to "upgrade your system to get udev version 161+git20100827-1".

I would welcome some advice how to get this specific version. Should I
change some preferences in repositories? Or should I just run apt-get
somehow?

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

would be sufficient?  (I do have possibility to us an alternative -
wired - network connection and I my machine has 1GB of memory.)
