Ok. scanadf and scanadf-perl show the same error.
scanimage-perl and scanimage work correctly. libsane-perl thinks that DIN-A4 is too large for the scanner (whyever). A test with a smaller scansize worked. I'll use scanimage now instead of scanadf.
