The bug is closed already, but here is an update on this 'bug'. I recently installed Windows XP on this notebook and.. guess what, the same problem is there after an unexpected shutdown. Rebooting about 5-6 times reenables the network. My best guess now is that this is a hardware problem and has never been a bug in Ubuntu.
