I have a similar problem with netenv and Edgy: the netenv's chooser dialog box is NOT shown during the boot process, and the default network configuration is always automatically chosen. The only output I get is some garbage (non readable characters) in the /var/log/boot file. Note: I disabled the splash screen in grub's menu:
