Hum. Interesting. Since going to 2.6.20-13 & companion upgrades I was also experiencing this problem, in fact even worse: I could not connect even via wired after failing the wireless (and had to reboot my access point twice during my tries).
So I went to reboot to collect brand new data and... for the very first time in Feisty (since alpha) I got a wireless connection even before the login was completed! Weird...
