Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kile
Observation: When I use synaptic to install kile, it automaticallly pulls in the suggested package lilypond (which I have no intention on ever using), and lilypond in turn suggests lilypond-doc. Using the default settings, these get installed automatically. Not only is this over the top, but lilypond-doc is 142MB to download, 399MB installed. Considering that the whole download synaptic suggested to install kile was 216MB, about 2/3 of that were entirely unnecessary. Expectation: In general, fewer packages of almost no relevance should be selected for installation automatically. Whether this is achieved by cutting down on suggestions or by setting the package manager to not automatically install suggested packages can be debated. Suggestion: As an immediate fix, don't recommend lilypond from kile. Those who know it and want to use it will have no trouble explicitly selecting it. This might actually be a general bug against the Ubuntu packaging system, which I personally find too generous at times. ** Affects: kile (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- kile installation automatically pulls in lilypond-doc, which is 399MB in size https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/632515 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kile in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
