Using Ubuntu 6.06, Amarok 1.3.8, xine engine on a Dell Inspiron 6000 I
am having the same problem.

This is solved for me in Amarok by going to Settings, Configure Amarok,
Engine, xine engine, and changing the Output plugin from alsa to oss.

If you are not using alsa, its crashes won't make Amarok crash after a
suspend!
