@madbiologist: Well, a bug then. Because both common and multiverse repositories are checked in Synaptics, even after a Synaptics refresh. I apply the gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad, gstreamer0.10 -plugins-ugly in Synaptics; making sure Totem and gstreamer is up-to- date; refresh Synaptics; check that components of interest are enabled in Synaptics and then start a trial run, where the result is a 'cascading dialog'-situation with main dialog titled 'Installing Multimedia Package - gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg' and a smaller dialog displaying 'No packages installed' with an 'main dialog'-freeze requiring Kill processes. All this, under the notion that I don't have to install the daily alpha Live CD, 2010-08-31.
Now, I'm making room for this alpha on a unit and I'm going to prep.-it best I can and then start a trial run. All in all this weekend.
