I have the same problem with HP Pavilion dv6000. The lsusb command doesn't show camera at first. I am able to run cheese, but after some time it freezes and then only reboot helps bringing camera back. The modprobe command doesn't help. I have all latest updates of the ubuntu 10.04. It used to work flawlessly in 9.04.
