Tim Jones and Randall Ross, The beta freeze is over and new packages are being built in Launchpad all the time. So new stable nvidia-current_256.53 will soon find its way there. But, I do not expect it to resolve any of the sluggisshness issues, though. There are not too many changes in the 256.53 driver compared to the pre-release version 256.52. I have tested version 256.52 quite a lot now (see my comment #71) and that did not resolve sluggisshness. If it is a driver issue.
