I am on a HP Compaq nw8440 with a Radeon Mobility X1600. adding the radeon.new_pll=0 to the kernel boot params removed the flickering. However the LCD are still not recognised - it reports (in Monitor Preferences) "Monitor: Unknown"... And compiz doesn't start either.
