Despite Mr. Sitter's claim"one can actually install a partition editing
application in a live session", it wasn't obvious for me in Lucid Lynx.

I spent 20 minutes trying to find a graphical partition editor.  Google
returned references to QtParted, but that's not known to KPackageKit and
it seems obsolete.  Then references to KDE Partition Manager like this
one, but I couldn't find that package in KPackageKit either.

Note for others: the generic-sounding package "partitionmanager" in
KPackageKit is actually the graphical KDE Partition Manager.  I filed
bug #628527 that it should be identified better.
