Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cups
In order to get Kerberos authentication to work for the Windows/Samba printer on my network, I wanted to comment out the AuthInfoRequired line in my printers.conf. However, it turns out that this file gets rewritten periodically; the time stamp suggests this is caused by /etc/logrotate.d/cups The effect is that the printer driver prompts for my user name and password every time I try to print a document. This is mildly annoying (especially because my local user name is different from what I need in the authentication dialog) but acceptable; also, an alternative workaround would be to hard-code my user name and password in the device URI. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS Release: 10.04 $ apt-cache policy cups cups: Installed: 1.4.3-1ubuntu1.2 Candidate: 1.4.3-1ubuntu1.2 Version table: *** 1.4.3-1ubuntu1.2 0 500 http://mirrors.nic.funet.fi/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages 500 http://mirrors.nic.funet.fi/ubuntu/ lucid-security/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.4.3-1 0 500 http://mirrors.nic.funet.fi/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages ** Affects: cups (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Rewrites /etc/cups/printers.conf every night https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/627287 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
