The issue is that a wide range of people agree that the wallpaper is
substandard. This is an unusual reaction - none of the previous
wallpapers have provoked a formal bug. Since this contributes to the
overall impression of the OS, it is important to the community.

Since you asked for data, I have asked 25 people if they preferred the
new orange dot wallpaper, or the old pure purple wallpaper. 23 said they
preferred the former. This is aesthetic testing. You have substantive
data.
