Adding some additional commentary -- this could be a documentation or a policy issue, or both. This is a follow-up to a thread on the ubuntu- users email list (beginning 3/28/2007 titled "popularity-contest") where people expressed concern about privacy and security in this package.
A poster to the list pointed out the issues in Debian's popularity- contest have been very well described: see http://popcon.debian.org/ which has working faq and readme links to http://popcon.debian.org/README and http://popcon.debian.org/FAQ The package (and resulting data) might be used more if it were thoroughly described on Ubuntu official web sites and documentation. -- popcon website has dead links https://launchpad.net/bugs/53330 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
