I can confirm the report by chrysoberyl as it happens to me quite the
same way.

Even updating the system via "apt-get upgrade" freezes the machine after
a few MBytes of download - although no other application is running
apart from the bare lucid with gnome and services. I could only install
the latest updates (especially the approx. 120 MB of "new" kernel) by
manually interrupting the wifi internet connection about every 30 MB and
reconnecting - and hard-rebooting the machine a dozen of times :(...

This is seriously odd, since my machine is quite far away from the
router!

I'm using wicd which always reports 100% signal strength, although it
can't be more than about 30% (as is reported by Windows XP prof. x64,
running on the same machine without any problems of that kind!!)
