I also had this problem in 10.04 the first time I enabled remote desktop. vino-server was taking 98-99% of my CPU. I disabled remote desktop - which didn't kill the process - and then killed the process. When I re-enabled remote desktop, it was fine. No idea what triggered it, but whatever the bug is, it isn't fixed yet.
