Public bug reported:

Detailed description:

When the screen fades out, for example when asking for a root password
to launch software update, the display seems to hiccup and looks ugly.
Instead, either the fade should be smooth, or the fade shouldn't occur.

Steps to reproduce:

Option 1:

- Do something graphical requiring a root password (launch software
update, synaptic, etc.)

Option 2:

- in Terminal, type: gksudo gedit

** Affects: Ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
