Just a note - I don't know if this is useful or not. I used the package below to get the nvidia driver, and it works to an extent (on the same Dell D800 reported above). I don't know if it was something that the bug fix requires as a workaround, or if I'm still supposed to use nvidia- glx.
apt-get install nvidia-glx-legacy This allowed me to set 1920x1200 resolution (which the nv driver did not allow - maybe that is fixable with xorg.conf, I don't know). The restricted driver manager now reports in a dialog: "Your hardware does not need any restricted drivers" and the Desktop Effects dialog does not allow me to enable desktop effects. -- Restricted Drivers Manager Fails to Detect nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 https://launchpad.net/bugs/95779 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
