Public bug reported: Following a recent upgrade of Ubuntu server "Lucid" to 2.6.32-24 my normal daily backup script crashes the system when it tries to create a new logical volume to use as a snapshot. The normal "logical volume created" message does not appear and the script hangs.
While the system seems to respond to pings and TCP opens, the server processes ( apache, postfix, samba, webmin) do not respond. SSH and the serial console accept the login but don't prompt for the password. System does not respond to power switch either so the only way to restart it is to do a hard power off. Symptoms have been repeated by running the backup script manually from both console and ssh logins as well. Syslog output at the time of the backup was as follows: Aug 13 00:05:01 zaphod CRON[2620]: (root) CMD (~tjon/bin/newbackup #Daily backup script) Aug 13 00:05:01 zaphod kernel: [55215.128950] RPC: Registered udp transport module. Aug 13 00:05:01 zaphod kernel: [55215.128955] RPC: Registered tcp transport module. Aug 13 00:05:01 zaphod kernel: [55215.128958] RPC: Registered tcp NFSv4.1 backchannel transport module. Aug 13 00:05:01 zaphod kernel: [55215.261954] svc: failed to register lockdv1 RPC service (errno 97). If I restart the system and manually select 2.6.32-23-generic from the GRUB boot menu the bug disappears. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Lucid kernel 2.6.32-24-generic causes crash on creation of logical volume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/617190 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
