Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

I'm running udev 151-12 from lucid.

If you are writing your own udev rules files, and don't name them
something ending in .rules, they are silently ignored.

/etc/udev/rules.d/README makes no mention of this, only saying 'it's
recommended that you simply name your files "descriptive-name.rules" '.
udev(7) doesn't even hint at this restriction. Either, or ideally both,
of these places should say so.

(I did eventually find that the writing_udev_rules.html document says
they must end in .rules, but that isn't installed as part of the
package.)

** Affects: udev (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New

Documentation should make it clear that rules file names need to end in .rules
