Hi Fabio, thanks for the follow-up. There have been no further problems like this one in Lucid. It seemed to settle down after the Karmic release.
There has been an occasional problem with Compiz (I assume... I haven't been able to reproduce it). After leaving the puter idle for some time I have returned to find all running applications and open windows on the first desktop, and the graphics running in standard mode (no wobbly windows, no rotating cube, sliding desk top changer etc.). It requires a reboot to reset the enhanced eye candy. I haven't had the time to research bug reports. Maybe if it happens when I'm in a sufficiently pissed off mood I'll try and fix it, but I'm time- poor.
