This isn't really Ubuntu's fault, since it's the driver itself that controls the light on the mute button/touch-switch. Theoretically, it is the original sound driver creator's fault for not making a proper driver for Linux users to use, and resorting to having the default audio drivers on Ubuntu to run the show.
Nonetheless, it's about time that some of the small things like this were fixed. Ubuntu is stable and beats the heck out of Windows and Mac OSes.
