Exact same error messages seen on two different machines--one upgraded from 9.10 and one installed from scratch. Both use domain logins and NFS-mounted home directories (from Isilon storage, however, not FreeBSD). Already tried removing and purging gdm then reinstalling the package, no dice.
Fortunately, these are the only two Ubuntu systems in our environment.
