Hi Tim, kernel 2.6.35-rc5 is just a week old. Maverick will use 2.6.35 and after its release, I guess, we can expect support for lucid as well, see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1498079 . For the meantime, the module you wish for your wlan is presumably rt2860sta.ko or rt2870sta.ko, and they are in the 2.6.35rc4-131+ge467e10+xxpatch-generic kernels from Brian Rogers. So either they do not work yet or other modules are loaded instead, see http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1485772.html .
