As for the best practices I think the history of this bug confirms: - there a patch that claims to fix the bug (see the forum linked from the description of this bug) - I can you reproduce the bug myself (and so have other people) - Fedora latest stable release has no issue with the problem reported
So, it seems three criteria are met. I'm not against attaching my log files but since I have fixed the issue manually with the instructions of the forum, I'm not sure the issue would appear in the log anymore. My problem is solved and I hope the Ubuntu community makes an effort to push a fix into the distribution for others. A manual solution has been found for a problem several users have reported and confirmed.
