Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mountall
I have just upgraded a headless server from Hardy LTS to Lucid LTS over ssh. For some reason, there was an entry in /etc/fstab which referred to a non-existent mountpoint. In Hardy, this did not stop the boot from proceeding (it's possible that there was a warning printed to the console, but because the server is headless, it was not noticed). After the upgrade to Lucid, the boot process hung waiting for keyboard input with the message "an error occurred while mounting..." It was necessary to physically attach a monitor and keyboard to the normally headless server to identify and fix the problem. Since this affects upgrades from one LTS to another, I think this is quite important, especially for Ubuntu Server. Maybe an option to simply time-out if the user doesn't press any key would be enough to solve this problem. ** Affects: mountall (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: headless lts server -- Boot hangs waiting for keyboard input on mount fail https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607003 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
