First, for Till and Post 170, thank you so much for your clarification. With that help I have done all of the items suggested by Sepero in post 165 above at this link: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9480172&postcount=20 on the machine that has given me the most problems. I've done 3 reboots and 1 cold boot so far and everything has worked fine. I'll do the second machine tonight and keep you updated on how both are doing.
