Mutt requires an MTA (such as the "mail" command) to send outgoing mail, which it does not handle on its own; thus the dependency. It doesn't need a full-blown MTA (that provides queueing and such), just something to use in sending mail. The reality is that it needs something to complete its status as an MUA: something capable of handing off mail /to/ an MTA, which it can't handle.
The mailx package, AFAICT, would also fit the bill, though it does not provide mail-transfer-agent (only mail-reader). I'm not sure how this should be fixed: clearly, it needs /something/, and that something should be indicated via the depends. Perhaps replacing postfix with mailx in the dependencies would be at least a step forward, as installing postfix just for the sake of mutt is clearly broken. -- mutt package dependencies https://launchpad.net/bugs/61721 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
