OK, that's definitely the case. Can I ask for a little more information from you? Specifically, the graphics card and driver you're using, the "Device" and "Screen" sections from your xorg.conf, your /var/log/Xorg.0.log after the crash has happened, and the output of the command "xrandr"?
I have a hackish patch that would work around the problem but this is either an Xrandr or driver problem, so it would be nice to get a proper fix.
