Same here, on Lucid LTS, but I am not able to open the same .pdf's in Adobe Reader (latest version) either, so I am wondering if it is a dependency problem, being either not present or not updated? I have alternately gotten the "file is damaged" error message- downloading any .pdf's from Internet Archive or Google. I reinstalled both Adobe Reader and Evince...same issues.
