note on the special launchpad coupled with a crash report, there is an "xorg bug report" of 5-16-10 that may give history that clarifies why there's no sound or allied capabilities. Here's a portion of that report: following instructions at http://wiki.x.org... My PC went into a fatal server error. It said it had failed to submit batchbuffer: input/output error. I sought to consult with the X.org Foundation support relative to log file var/log/Xorg.0.log.
