Apparently, I was wrong - it doesn't work flawlessly as I thought with kernel http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.35-rc3-maverick/. During video playback I noticed several hiccups some of which were more or less severe and caused the system to finally hang. /var/log/syslog gave me the following:
