This bug is still an issue. Testing with latest KernelMainlineBuilds (which
appears to be 2.6.35-rc3), the problem is still there (around 40% packet loss
when pinging a machine next to me on the network).
The bug is reported upstream, but does not get much love... and I don't know
hos to help on this.

Testing with Maverick alpha1 fails on my machine (probably due to
another bug where nv driver is unable to get the EDID information out of
my laptop screen... but this is another subject.).

** Description changed:

The ath9k wifi driver provided by linux-backports-
modules-2.6.31-19-generic does not work properly: frequent
desassociation and packet loss make the connection hardly usable.

The connection is frequently desassociated, as seen in the extract of syslog
attached as syslog.txt.
Lot of packets are lost (~30%) as seen in attached ping.txt.
  iwconfig.txt attached also.

The version ath9k is seen in attached modinfo.txt. (srcversion of the module
is 918698AEA3CBE61D0E996E6)
  I am using network-manager.
