It seems that the origin of the bug is not on the music-applet side but on the banshee side, according to the author of music-applet : http://www.kuliniewicz.org/blog/archives/2008/06/10/music-applet-240-released/ (I know, it was some time ago...) However, this is still annoying to not be able to manipulate the ratings from music-applet.
