1):~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Release: 10.04 2):~$ apt-cache policy gnome-appearance-properties W: Unable to locate package gnome-appearance-properties 3) Expect to set preferences in the Appearance Preferences dialogue and that they be preserved after reboot. 4) "Theme" and "Background" preferences are preserved but "Fonts" and "Visual Effects" are not. It always reverts back to Visual Effects; "None" upon reboot or logoff. Note: The None setting forces my PC to exhibit wacky renderings making it unusable.
