Please note that bug 528981 is in regards to a PATA controller.  But
yes, the problem has been fixed in 2.6.33+.  The problem didn't manifest
itself until sometime after 2.6.28, and by the time Karmic rolled around
it was impossible to even complete an installation without such severe
corruption that the installation failed.  The default Lucid kernel is
markedly better, but still will result in corruption.
