I followed the instructions, read the whole page, enabled apport, restarted
Ubuntu, saw that gnome-settings-daemon was not in the process list and that my
theme was not correctly loaded, and that nothing was in /var/crash.
I previously installed all debug symbols, as I said in my previous post.

What now?
Is it possible that gnome-settings-daemon does not crash but is just not
launched...?

fu...@flappy:~$ cat /etc/default/apport
# set this to 0 to disable apport, or to 1 to enable it
# you can temporarily override this with
# sudo service apport start force_start=1
enabled=1

# set maximum core dump file size (default: 209715200 bytes == 200 MB)
maxsize=209715200
fu...@flappy:~$ ls -la /var/crash
