Howdy,
I am confused about the apport-collect part. I understand how to use that
program once the system is booted. In this case, I don't get the kernel
loaded, because it cannot find my root filesystem. Do I run it after I reboot
back with the non pae kernel and will it still have any useful information to
collect?

I can take a spare hard drive and install the daily build of Maverick to test
as you ask. I don't see any alternate installer images. The regular image
does not let me setup an encrypted swap, so I would not really use the system
much. This leads to a follow-up question. Do you know if alternate installer
images will be arriving soon? If so, I should probably wait a bit. If they
won't be here soon, I can do the test and then wipe the disk. The bug was
fairly easy to reproduce on Lucid. I can see why you would also want to know
if it exists in the current Maverick. I'll wait until I see a response here
and then I can decide what to download and test.
Good day
