I have the same problem with my Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02). I have a 6Mbit/s internet, but on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS the speed reaches max 120kB/s. Also the wireless connection drops sometimes but reconnects immediately. Also ping to websites such as google.com is huge (600ms - 900ms)! I've tested the linux-backports-modules-wireless-lucid-generic package, but it doesn't solve any of this problems ;/
