same bug here, with Ubuntu 10.04 and and a serial "techsolo" keyboard. I use german-german layout. xev gives the same output for "AltGr" as in #1. The bug appears only if i us automatic login. So gnome-settings-daemon seems to behave different for automatic login towards login via gdm.
