Modifications to WillowNG are in the works, to resolve startup and performance issues. A working prototype is already in testing. I'm now focusing on administration issues related to the changes made to the filtering engine.
This is an interesting project, as the original Willow and WillowNG both had positive, complimentary, features - but neither tool was adequate as they stood... In general, the original Willow outperformed the Squid-Dansguardian combination, and slightly bested Tinyproxy (perhaps in the margin of test error). Willow's filtering engine was very well designed. WillowNG uses a HTTPServer (as proxy) module from Python that resolves some HTTP RANGE problems that make the original Willow unsuitable for large file transfers and data streaming (eg. Apple and Microsoft software updates, and MP3 streaming). By merging the original Willow filtering engine into WillowNG, the new WIllowNG outperforms the present version dramatically - it seems to be a viable solution, so far. In short, the bug reported here is understood and resolved in the prototype. No ETA is promised at this point for the fix / enhancements noted. It will be announced when it's ready. -- willowng will not start https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/313163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
