Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. This is
not a bug, but the way the powers-that-be decided sort would work on
their locales. In your case, this is the en_US locale. Please see
http://www.gnu.org/software/coreutils/faq/coreutils-faq.html#Sort-does-
not-sort-in-normal-order_0021 for details (and, for the 'ls' issue, see
the next entry in the FAQ.
