Yes, I am trying to set my friend up with Ubuntu on his Dell laptop with
Intel processor. Installed 9.10 OK. Rhythmbox opens his Ipod nano,
but doesn't seem to allow access or play the songs. Rhythmbox error
window says he needs MPEG-1 LAYER 3 (MP3) decoder. That may be, because
it will play a cd, but no video. I looked into getting that codec for
him but don't know how to do that either-- it is not in his syn. mgr.
and we can't get online...and after reading on the forums for that and
here, I think there may be multiple problems in my case.

I have the latest 10.04, amd64, with which his iPod plugs and plays in
Rhythmbox just great, (and from what I've read it will often work great
with the latest iTouch, etc.)-- AND-- this may be a clue-- the iPod has
worked fine on my previous installed versions of Ubuntu, which includes
9.10 !

PS: I can't get the updgrade to 10.04 to work on his machine either--
without internet connection, and I tried the both the desktop 32bit and
the alt version that says it works to upgrade without being online,
which, in this case it does not; and can't get my new wireless router to
config right to get him online either-- but those are two whole other
problems). I love Ubuntu, but I'm getting embarrassed in front of my
former mac user friend here...I keep telling him I'm sure it's my
error(s) (and/or a problem with the used Dell), and not the OS.
