Public bug reported: I have Dell E5410 and and Ubuntu 10.04 fails to boot on this. The leds just blink so the kernel has oopsed. I also tried mainline version 2.6.34-020634-generic and it has the same problem, kernel oopsed during boot. If I boot to recovery mode and use failsafeX all works just fine.
Netconsole log of the crash will follow. NB: The KMS bug #554569 also affects this machine and I had to workaround that by using i915.modeset=0.
