The same for me on Lucid i386..I tried with Pidgin also..if I choose "Skype" as account, it works perfectly..if I choose "Skype (DBus)" as account with the same skype account, Pidgin crashes..maybe the problem is related to the fact that in Empathy we see only one skype account, that is bigbrownchunx-skype-dbus..
