the problem changed upon upgrading this HD to a Lucid 10.04 upgrade and then while copying text in OO3.2 yesterday, the screen went black and I did a dpkg work around; do not know what I did but I believe I've ended up solving the reconfig and got going again. You bet I opened the update manager and let it absorb new packages. Still I could not detect where the black screen OO related error came from other than an incomplete or weak build.
Till, the huge font error is not present on this HD; it may be on my 500 gig that is resting in a slave slot but not correctly set up or running.
