Sorry for the late reply. The problem is in your /etc/default/sl-modem-daemon, probably it have been severely tampered with somehow before upgrade.
Please try the following: sudo apt-get remove --purge sl-modem-daemon sudo apt-get install sl-modem-daemon This should remove the package (& the conf files, including the damaged /etc/default/sl-modem-daemon), then the second command would install it again (with a default conf file that should work).
