I am not an expert in this area so I cannot tell you exactly what the problem is except to report the exact wording of the error message. I currently have version 8.04 (Hardy Heron) installed. Error message was:
Could not install the upgrades The upgrade is now aborted. Your system could be in an unusable state. A recovery will run now (dpkg -configure -a) -- Could not install the upgrades.
